This week was a fun adventure full with some good stories! We had a week break between the summer and fall semester for the teachers to prepare their classrooms and the students to do community service. So I will present this awesomeness in chronological order. This week feeling inspired by the students I went to pick up a piece of trash when to my surprise it slithered away! I almost picked up a snake! I was so shocked it took me like 30 seconds to regain control of myself to keep moving.

I went out to work with the kids one day and learned how to machete! I have put a picture of a machete with my blog for those of you that are unaware of this multipurpose tool of awesomeness! This is how we mow grass, cut vines, hair, tree limbs; you know whatever (I was kidding about the hair although only partly, some haircuts got me wondering). I was taught proper technique on how to use a machete by one of my students who is an expert. She said I was doing well and I practiced with both hands. One day I want to be like her and be a two handed macheteier! These kids know how to machete and practice every day after school. It is funny in the States people complain if they have to use a push mower rather than a lawn mower out here you are lucky if we let you use our push mower that is only to be used on land that is one acre or more. There is much rejoicing when the use of a push mower is approved.

My third funny story has to do with a very sensitive subject, my skin color. At lunch I was eating with our school nurse who exclaimed to me “wow you are finally starting to get some color!” I was like say what! She said “yeah when you came here you were so white! When I heard you were from Arizona I was so shocked and thought how did she avoid the sun so well?” I said “Cindy nobody likes skin cancer and I try to cake on the sunscreen and avoid getting burned at all costs” her response “umm yeah that is pretty obvious”. I thought it was so funny.

Now for my domestic update…my cooking rocks and I have the rock to prove it! I was eating rice that I made last week and bit down on a rock. I am making banana bread with this crazy banana that I found at the fruit market it was two bananas in one peel! I got two for the price of one!

I am starting to learn a little Spanish. I got this box from the school that promises in four weeks I can go from beginner to intermediate Spanish! It is awesome so far.

That’s all I got for this week. We start school again on Tuesday and I get more students. I am very excited it was way to quiet on campus this week, but my classroom looks amazing!
